Handbook For Fire Risk Mitigation

Make sure your contractors and landscapers review this handbook
 BEFORE working on your home.

This WUI Virtual Handbook for Fire Risk Assessments and Mitigation, from the Society of Fire Protection of Engineers (SFPE) and the SFPE Foundation, is an excellent resource for residents, contractors, landscapers, or anyone doing work on your home.

It does an excellent job explaining, through photos, graphics, and easy-to-understand explanations, how to harden your home against wildfire.

Many contractors and landscapers will tell you they are familiar with current wildfire mitigation methods and codes, but the science of wildfire prevention is constantly updating. The handbook even has “Gaps in Knowledge” and “Cost Considerations” in the chapters.

This WUI Handbook covers all parts of your home and garden: structure hardening, suppression sprinkler systems, vegetation management, landscaping design, what and where to plant, and community considerations.

Yes, it is a lot of information for the average resident, but it is meant to be a resource for when you are looking for answers.
