City of Agoura Hills Community Wildfire Risk Assessment (CWRA)
CWRA is the First Step to a Comprehensive CWPP
The Community Wildfire Risk Assessment (CWRA) for the City of Agoura Hills provides a science-based and data-driven approach to better understand potential wildfire hazards, risks and vulnerabilities across the city and neighboring communities. This assessment is the first step in the development of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) to help increase the city’s resiliency across a range of perspectives. The development process for the CWPP is anticipated to begin upon completion of the CWRA, in Sept 2025.

Fire risk to structures in California’s Wildland-Urban Interface
(Summer 2025) The destructive impacts of wildfires on people, property and the environment have dramatically increased, especially in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) in California. In these areas structures are threatened by both approaching flames and lofted embers which spread fire into and within communities…In this article, Nature Portfolio and the authors examine five major historical WUI fires—2017 Tubbs, 2017 Thomas, 2018 Camp, 2019 Kincade, and 2020 Glass Fires—utilizing machine learning (ML) analysis of on-the-ground post-fire data collection, remotely sensed data, and fire reconstruction modeling to assess patterns of structure loss and mitigation effectiveness. (Data heavy, but very interesting article)
IBHS 2025 LA County Wildfires Early Insights
(Spring 2025) The Palisades and Eaton Fires raged through Los Angeles County neighborhoods creating catastrophic conflagration. More than 16,000 structures were destroyed in the fires which now rank as two of California’s three most destructive fires on record. In the days following the conflagration, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) deployed teams to study the damage and further advance the understanding of fire spread into and through communities.
Redefining the Urban Wildfire Problem in the West
(Spring 2024) This excellent white paper was put together by Headwaters Economics (headwaterseconomics.org) and leading wildfire experts, who make the case that creating wildfire-resistant communities must become a much higher priority. After reading this 26 page document you will have a deep understanding of where we have been, where we are now, and how we should plan to deal with urban wildfires in the future.
